MARIENLYST CASTLE GETS NEW LIFE

Marienlyst Castle opens its doors to the public and becomes a living experience place with a focus on history and garden art.

In September 2023, it became a reality. S/I Marienlyst Slot has entered into a lease agreement with the Municipality of Helsingør and will take over the operation of the historic Marienlyst Slot.

It marks the beginning of a new era for the beautiful castle, which was built in 1588 by Frederick II as a pleasure palace and hunting lodge for the royal family – in close connection with Kronborg.

Marienlyst Castle will in future be open to everyone and form the framework for communicating the castle's unique history, garden art and cultural heritage. The vision is to create a place where the past comes alive – and where both citizens and visitors can explore historical surroundings.

Behind this great effort is the association Marienlyst Slots Venner, which has worked purposefully and voluntarily for years to breathe new life into the castle and secure its future.

The castle will be run as a social economic enterprise, with profits going back to the community and to the preservation and development of the beautiful royal castle.
