Marienlyst Castle is a historic site with a distinct role in today's Elsinore. As a former royal pleasure palace and part of the city's landscape and cultural heritage, the castle contains a long story that continues to unfold. Our ambition is to bring this story into play in a way that makes sense today - for citizens, communities and visitors.

Marienlyst Castle should be an open and vibrant place that actively contributes to the city's cultural life. A place where people can meet across generations, participate in experiences, take part in communities – and use the castle as a natural part of both everyday life and special moments.

For the citizens of Helsingør and the surrounding area, Marienlyst Castle is intended as a close and welcoming meeting place. Here there will be room to drop by in everyday life, take a walk in the garden, have lunch in the king's old kitchen, participate in conversations, concerts and events - or simply spend time in a historical setting with peace and presence.

For visitors from outside, Marienlyst Castle should contribute to the whole of Helsingør. The castle complements the city's other cultural and experience offerings and helps create a comprehensive experience that makes you want to stay longer and return. The ambition is not to stand alone, but to be part of an interaction where culture, history and contemporary life together make Helsingør an attractive place to visit.

In 2026, Helsingør will mark its 600th anniversary as a market town with a whole year full of events. We see this as a special opportunity to contribute actively and constructively to the city's shared narrative. At Marienlyst Castle, we will do everything we can to create experiences that are open, accessible and relevant – in close collaboration with the city's other cultural institutions, actors and communities.

Marienlyst Castle is owned by the Municipality of Helsingør and is run by an independent institution. The castle does not receive public operating subsidies and must create the basis for its operation itself through activities, events, collaborations, as well as foundation support and private contributions. This is an important prerequisite for the castle to continue to be an open, vibrant and accessible place for the public in the future.

A central part of the life of the castle is the commitment that surrounds the site. Over the years, the Friends of Marienlyst Castle and many volunteers have played a crucial role in the work of preserving and developing the castle, and the community around the site remains an important part of its future.

Welcome inside Marienlyst Castle.
