Part of the team
A practical STU offer with real tasks in a vibrant cultural venue
STU Marienlyst Slot – Part of the team is a small, practice-oriented STU (Specialized Youth Education) program for young people with special needs who require structure, clear adult guidance, concrete tasks, and a meaningful learning environment.
The program is based on the daily operation of Marienlyst Castle as a vibrant cultural venue with a café, guests, events, meetings, conferences, tours, service, hospitality, volunteers, and historical settings.
Young people do not learn about working life from a distance. They practice working life through concrete, necessary, and meaningful tasks related to opening, operating, communicating, and developing a vibrant cultural venue.
Who is the program for?
The program is aimed at young people under 25 who are assessed to be in the target group for Specialized Youth Education and who cannot complete a regular youth education, even with special educational support.
STU Marienlyst Slot is particularly relevant for young people with mild to moderate support needs who can benefit from:
- a small and manageable learning environment
- clear structure and predictability
- consistent adult presence and relational security
- practical learning rather than traditional classroom instruction
- concrete tasks with a visible purpose
- gradual development of responsibility, independence, and participation
- support for social situations, communication, and everyday life management
The program is not a closed or highly shielded special environment and is not aimed at young people who require constant individual support. As Marienlyst Castle is a historic building with stairs and limited physical accessibility, the program requires that the young person has a certain physical mobility and can navigate safely within the castle's premises.
What do the young people work with?
The young people participate in practical learning processes based on the castle's daily operations. The tasks are adapted to each individual young person and pedagogically framed to become learning spaces for development, progression, and clarification.
The young people can, among other things, work with:
- café, kitchen, service, and hospitality
- guest reception and guest service
- preparation for meetings, conferences, and events
- practical operation, tidying, light cleaning, and order
- storage, stock replenishment, and inventory management
- cultural dissemination, exhibitions, and events
- communication, photography, and visibility
- practical understanding of economics
- everyday life management and ADL (Activities of Daily Living)
- collaboration with volunteers and local actors
Danish, mathematics, economic understanding, digital communication, and general competencies are integrated into the practical instruction through concrete tasks in the castle's operations. This could include, for example, inventory counting, café economics, menus, guest information, notices, schedules, budgets, receipts, work orders, and documentation of their own tasks.
Purpose and progression
The purpose is for the young person to develop greater independence, attendance stability, work identity, social competencies, everyday life management, and experience with concrete work tasks.
STU Marienlyst Slot can facilitate a full three-year STU program when it is relevant and necessary for the young person. At the same time, the program works purposefully with clarification, progression, and transition from the outset.
A central goal is that the young person is not kept in STU longer than necessary, but receives the right support, the right tools, and concrete experiences to take the next realistic step towards education, a job, an apprenticeship, an internship, a job under special conditions, a flex job, or other active participation in working and adult life.
Organization and teaching hours
STU Marienlyst Slot is organized within the applicable rules for STU, including the requirement of a minimum of 840 teaching hours annually.
The program will generally have a fixed and manageable weekly schedule four days a week. The specific organization is agreed upon with the municipality and adapted to the young person's goals, support needs, and progression.
During specific periods, individual days or activities may be placed differently if it is pedagogically relevant and related to the castle's operations, events, café, guest reception, or cultural activities.
STU Program
The STU program is for young people who have been referred to Specialized Youth Education and for whom Marienlyst Castle is deemed to be the right educational institution.
The program is individually tailored based on the municipality's progression plan, the young person's goals, and the castle's daily operation as a vibrant cultural venue.
Price for STU program can be found on stu-overblik
The price generally includes practical instruction, pedagogical support to the agreed extent, a dedicated contact person, participation in relevant tasks, internal internships, initial assessment, individual learning and development plan, ongoing documentation, quarterly status, semi-annual evaluation, follow-up meetings by arrangement, and a final description of competencies and progression.
Clarification program
A shorter clarification program, for example, 8–12 weeks, can also be arranged. The clarification program can be used when the municipality and the young person wish to test the match, motivation, support needs, and prerequisites for a potential STU program at Marienlyst Castle.
The clarification program can also help describe the young person's resources, work habits, social competencies, physical mobility, support needs, and participation in specific tasks.
The program can typically be organized 2–3 days a week, depending on the young person's needs and the purpose of the clarification.
Guideline price for clarification program:
DKK 12,000–16,000 per month per student
depending on scope, attendance, support needs, and documentation requirements.
The clarification program concludes with a brief written assessment with recommendations for the next steps.
Capacity
STU Marienlyst Slot is established as a smaller program with limited capacity. The small environment is a central part of the program's quality.
A realistic start would be with a few young people initially and a gradual expansion towards a total group of approximately 10–12 young people.
Collaboration with municipalities
STU Marienlyst Slot seeks close and professional collaboration with KUI/UU (Municipal Youth Guidance/Youth Guidance), municipalities, young people, relatives, and relevant partners.
Before admission, a visit to Marienlyst Castle is recommended, where the young person, any relatives, and the municipality can get a feel for the place, the setting, accessibility, and types of tasks.
If there is doubt about the match, a shorter clarification program can be arranged before a decision is made on an actual STU program.
Contact
Municipalities, KUI/UU counselors, and partners are welcome to contact Director Lene Lissau for further information, detailed material, visits, or dialogue about specific young people.
