A practical clarification process with real tasks at a vibrant cultural venue
Marienlyst Slot offers a short, practical clarification process for young people where the municipality requires a concrete assessment of the young person's motivation, attendance, support needs, work habits, social skills, physical mobility, and potential for education, internships, jobs, or other educational and employment-oriented efforts.
The clarification process takes place at Marienlyst Slot in Helsingør and is based on the castle's daily operations as a vibrant cultural venue with a café, guests, events, meetings, conferences, tours, service, hospitality, volunteers, and historical settings.
The process is not a regular internship and not an ordinary job clarification process. It is a pedagogically structured clarification process where the young person, through concrete and meaningful tasks, gets the opportunity to test themselves in a realistic, supported learning and working community.
Why a clarification process?
The clarification process has been developed based on the desire to help young people move forward in the right direction as early as possible.
The process should provide the young person and the municipality with a concrete and practical basis for assessing whether the young person can be supported further towards FGU (Preparatory Basic Education), other youth education, apprenticeships, internships, jobs, or other employment-oriented efforts — or whether there is a need for a more specially organized process.
The clarification process can thus be used as:
- a practical clarification of the young person's motivation, resources, and support needs
- a concrete basis for deciding on the next initiative
- an opportunity to test suitability for a practical learning environment
- an economically responsible tool for the municipality because a better match can reduce the risk of processes that do not suit the young person's current needs and potential
Who is the process for?
The clarification process is aimed at young people who need a practical clarification and description of motivation, functional ability, work habits, support needs, and participation opportunities.
This could include young people who:
- the municipality wants a concrete description before deciding on the next initiative
- have experiences with school absenteeism, school refusal, or low motivation for traditional education
- need to be clarified regarding work life, internships, education, or other initiatives
- need clear adult guidance, structure, and concrete tasks
- can benefit from a real work and cultural community
- where there is a need to assess attendance, motivation, task understanding, and support needs over time
The target group may include young people with autism, ADHD, mental vulnerability, social insecurity, mild cognitive difficulties, general learning difficulties, school refusal, or other conditions affecting learning, well-being, structure, attendance, or participation.
The process is also relevant for young people who are on the verge of education, employment, or communities, but where it is still unclear what is holding them back. Here, the clarification can provide the municipality with a more concrete basis for assessing the young person's resources, support needs, motivation, and realistic next steps.
The offer requires that the young person, with relevant support, can participate in an open and vibrant environment with guests, staff, volunteers, café operations, events, and varying activities.
The clarification process is not aimed at young people who need a closed or highly sheltered special environment, constant individual support, extensive therapeutic intervention, or full physical accessibility throughout the building.
Marienlyst Slot is a historic building with stairs and limited physical access. The process therefore requires that the young person has a certain physical mobility and can move safely within the castle's premises.
What can the young person try out?
The clarification process is based on concrete tasks in the castle's daily operations. The tasks are chosen and adapted according to the young person's resources, daily form, interests, and support needs.
The young person can, among other things, try out tasks within:
- café, kitchen, and hospitality
- guest reception and guest service
- preparation for meetings, conferences, and events
- practical service, tidying up, and light cleaning
- storage, stock replenishment, and inventory management
- cultural dissemination and simple guided tours
- events and meeting service
- communication, photography, and visibility
- simple administration
- economy and practical operations
- daily life management, structure, and transport training
The tasks have a real purpose, but the young person is not engaged as regular labor. The tasks are used as pedagogical clarification spaces where attendance, motivation, task understanding, responsibility, cooperation, independence, pace, breaks, communication, and support needs can be observed and worked on.
What is clarified?
The clarification process can, among other things, uncover:
- motivation
- attendance and stability
- daily rhythm and working hours
- support needs
- social participation
- communication
- task understanding
- work habits
- responsibility and independence
- physical mobility and suitability for the castle's premises
- ability to participate in an open environment with guests, staff, and volunteers
- interest in relevant task types
- need for structure, breaks, and adult support
- resources and areas for development
- relevant educational and career paths
- realistic next steps
The clarification can contribute to the municipality's further assessment of the young person's resources, support needs, work capacity, participation opportunities, and relevant next steps.
Pedagogical framework
The clarification process is based on a practical, relational, and structured pedagogical approach.
It involves:
- clear daily structure
- fixed adults
- concrete and manageable tasks
- smaller groups or individual tasks as needed
- breaks and energy regulation
- gradual participation
- reflection on personal experiences
- ongoing observation and documentation
- close dialogue with the municipality
For some young people, the clarification will start with more sheltered tasks behind the scenes. For others, contact with guests, café work, meeting service, dissemination, or tasks with greater responsibility can be approached more quickly.
Duration and scope
The clarification process can, for example, be organized over 8–12 weeks.
The scope is agreed upon specifically with the municipality and can typically be 2–3 days a week, depending on the young person's needs, the purpose of the clarification, and the desired level of documentation.
The process is organized with a fixed and clear weekly schedule, allowing the young person to practice attendance, rhythm, structure, and participation over time.
Documentation
The clarification process concludes with a short written assessment for the municipality.
The assessment can, among other things, describe:
- attendance and stability
- well-being and motivation
- resources and interests
- support needs
- social participation
- participation in specific tasks
- physical mobility and suitability for the castle's premises
- work habits and task understanding
- independence and responsibility
- need for structure, breaks, and adult support
- assessment of relevant educational and career paths
- recommendations for further progress
The documentation is concrete, practical, and action-oriented, so it can be used in the municipality's further assessment and planning.
Possible next steps
The clarification process should help to create a clearer basis for the young person to move forward in the right direction.
The goal is that the young person, as far as possible, is supported further towards FGU (Preparatory Basic Education), other youth education, apprenticeships, internships, jobs, other employment-oriented efforts, or similar relevant next steps.
If it turns out that the young person needs a more specially organized process, the clarification can also serve as a basis for the municipality's further assessment.
After the clarification process, the next steps could, for example, be:
- FGU (Preparatory Basic Education)
- other youth education
- apprenticeship
- internship
- job
- other employment-oriented efforts
- further clarification or support measures
- or similar relevant next steps
